Happens to mine as well, but only on IE. So basically, on first click, you see a flick of the dropdown (without content). On second click, it shows the selection.

Hoping for a fix.

Hi Adam, I'm thinking of how to simulate it. It only happens in IE8 for me. I think I also saw one of my colleagues have the same issue in IE10. Can't view the jsfiddle in IE8 because you can't do pretty much anything on IE8 (sadly, our customer base uses IE and they are old people). I will test your example on IE10 and get back to you on the result. Thanks!

@clubfredd if youre logged in to jsfiddle, under the "share" menu at the top, you can get a link to a "full screen result". Using that URL I am able to check it in browserstack using legacy versions of IE. I will say that I have done so with my own demos (eg http://jsfiddle.net/adamco/NyRvW/embedded/result/ ) and have not ran into any issues as described but i'll keep my eye out

Hi Adam, sorry for getting back to you late on the result. I used the stylesheet on the fiddle to identify what state the quirky selects were at, and it looks like: the first mousedown sets it to customSelectFocus, then mouseup goes into customSelectOpen while on customSelectFocus without the dropdown . On second click it functions properly and shows dropdown. Only happens on IE (8 & 10 - browsers that I have tested on). I appreciate all your help.

Any thoughts?

I have not been able to reproduce this. The example I posted appears to be fine in those browsers. I would have to see a fiddle/demo that would allow me to investigate it while its happening
