If referencing something you should "reference" it, not copy the definition. As far as I can tell you should import the target method instead as stated in dnlib's README file.

Importer importer = new Importer(mod);
ITypeDefOrRef consoleRef = importer.Import(typeof(System.Console));
IMethod writeLine = importer.Import(typeof(System.Console).GetMethod("WriteLine"));

ModuleDef also has a couple of Import() methods you could use so you usually don't need to explicitly create the Importer class.
